I am confused about the difference between the free membership and the upgraded membership. Will you please explain?
Of course! WomenWalking is an open membership. This means this site does not match up members. Members choose their own walking partners. Upgraded members (paid) have full access to the membership including bulletin board conversation, email and members walking preferences. The free membership is offered in response to feedback that made it clear to us that women want to know what, if any, members are nearby to walk with before making a monetary commitment.
Why do I have to pay in order to have full access to all the benefits of the site?
We are glad you asked! First, with safety in mind, use of a credit card for payment is a system of verification that confirms both the name and physical location of a person. Second, upgraded members have all made a small payment that helps with operation expenses incurred while keeping WomenWalking running; demonstrating care and commitment to our community that keeps participation strong and active. Members' participation is at the heart of our community.
I love your website and want to join and be a member, but why do you ask for all the walking information?
We are a self-moderating, collaborative community and by sharing information about our selves and our experiences, we help each other to make informed decisions about those with whom we choose to meet and walk. WomenWalking members benefit each other and our community as a whole!
I travel frequently and miss my walks when I feel cooped up in a place I don't know anyone. If I go to a different state, can I walk with members there, too?
We hope so! This is a central component to this site; women getting to know one another and creating networks nationwide. If you travel anywhere in the US, it's possible for you to find a walking partner in another state and the more we talk to one another, the better the possibility.
Why do you need my email address and telephone number?
We require you to provide us with a valid, active email address and telephone to facilitate any communication, such as a password, about your account with WomenWalking. We never share or sell any identifying information about your account-- ever!
Why do you need to know my age?
Due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we're required to verify that all WomenWalking users are at least 13 years of age. That said, although our website is a general audience site for women, we restrict the use of our service to individuals age 18 and above.
I'm in a wheelchair. Can I be a member?
Of course! WomenWalking welcomes all women who have an interest in getting outside for fresh air, exercise and companionship. We all move at different paces and can pick "walking" partners accordingly. This site is about friendships as well as "walking."
Sharing my personal information for "all the world to see," is a concern for me. Will other members see everything in my profile?
At WomenWalking.net, your privacy is important to us. We understand completely your concern about having your private information seen by "everyone." That's why we protect certain parts of your profile from being public (see the registration page) and encourage you to keep your personal information, such as telephone and personal email, private when "talking" to other members. Additionally, we use PayPal for secure payment transactions. Our site has NO access to members credit card information. PayPal is used worldwide by many businesses. I'm very busy with work and family. I don't think I have time to schedule walks with someone.
We understand busy. It's frustrating to feel like we don't have even one spare moment for ourselves just to take a short walk, let alone try to coordinate a time to walk with someone. Being a member of WomenWalking makes it easier because we can meet other women like ourselves who have little bits of time to take a walk; making it more likely to meet other members whose timing needs are a match to yours.
What if I find a walking partner in the first month and don't need WomenWalking anymore?
Wow! We're so glad to hear of your success! WomenWalking.net does work. We urge you to think of your success as all the more reason to stay on as a member. Since life is continuously shifting and changing, it's best to have more than one walking partner to rely on. Besides, if you travel anywhere in the U.S., you always have WomenWalking with you.
